Satoshi Kako

Born in Fukui in 1926. Graduated from the Tokyo University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry in 1948. He is a Doctor of Engineering as well as a Professional Engineer (chemistry). While working at a private chemical company laboratory, he was also involved in settlement activities and children’s councils. After leaving the company in 1973, he has been working as a picture book author. His works (more than 500 titles) range widely, from story picture books to educational picture books on science. Some of his major works are: the Kako Satoshi Ohanashi-no Hon series, (Kaisei-sha), Daruma-chan series (Fukuonkan Shoten Publishers). He received the Kikuchi Kan Award in 2008 and the Special Achievement Award from the Chemical Society of Japan in 2009.
