Magical, shape-shifting, time-travelling white fox Shirakoma Maru visits Edo some 130 years ago in this seventh instalment of his adventures. Here he meets famous characters from that time, such as the heroic outlaw Nezumi Kozo (but it is really him?), the woodblock print artist Katsushika Hokusai, and rebellious scholar Oshio Heihachiro. Drawing upon Japan’s rich tradition of folk stories and a rainbow of characters from the Tenpo era (1830-1844), Hiroshi Saito weaves a fascinating tale of exploration and fantasy.
