Shop owner Beniko’s golden beckoning cats have run out of ideas for new sweets, so Beniko shares some of her memories to inspire them. Years ago, Beniko was a travelling saleswoman, selling her sweets door-to-door, and each of the seven chapters tells a different story from her colourful and magical past. This interlude from the main linear story gives readers a glimpse into Beniko’s past and is set across multiple eras of early modern Japan.
