Twenty Years of the Coppice
by Takeshi Senaga
The so-called “satoyama” landscape in Japan comprises two artificially managed land types: rice fields and coppices. This book is half of a pair of illustrated books introducing satoyama landscapes throughout the seasons and across the years. It also introduces the rich biodiversity of coppices, which are home to flora, fauna and fungi alike. In recent years, however, lifestyle changes have led to a decline in satoyama environments, with terrible consequences for the life that once thrived there.
