Park
by Takashi Kurihara
Onigahara is a special park, for it sits on top of an ogre’s tummy. As long as he’s sleeping, the children can play, but as soon as he wakes they must run away – quick! So they listen carefully for when his rumbling snores turn into yawns after awaking. This is a lovely book for many reasons: the imaginative setting, the rhythm and repetition of the words, the joy of children playing, and a very unexpected twist.
