Fly High, Manga Fan: Illustrated letters from Special Attack Unit Member Sukenori Yamasaki

by Sukenori Yamasaki

based on the work of Ren Inaizumi

Inspired by his childhood love of planes, Sukenori Yamasaki was just a boy when he volunteered to join the Special Attack Unit. He loved manga, too, and during his training sent his family many letters filled with vivid, humorous illustrations about unit life. Yet behind these seemingly carefree pictures looms the ever-nearer, ever-more-real threat of combat. This is a poignant, powerful collection of pictures, accompanied by commentary from an award-winning non-fiction writer.
