Friends Around the World
36 Uzbekistan – Sabrat, Son of the Silk Road
by Arata Dodo
Uzbekistan is a country along the Silk Road, an ancient trade route that stretched from China, across central Asia, to Europe. Eleven year old Sabrat lives in Samarkand, a beautiful town known as the “Blue Capital”. Sabrat’s name means “he who shall be respected by others”, and one day he would like to become a tour guide, just like his mother. Through this book, the warmth of Uzbekistani culture shines through, as does the love that Sabrat has for his family and friends.
